Fly to the World’s Largest Music Festival: Summerfest 2019

0

Summer is quickly approaching, which means it’s time to plan some fun getaways. If you’re looking for somewhere to unwind, socialize, and catch amazing live music, be sure to add Summerfest to the top of this year’s summer bucket list.

Music lovers around the world have been gathering in Milwaukee for Summerfest for over 50 years. This year’s festival takes place June 26-30th and July 2-7, and features world-class acts like Jennifer Lopez, Lionel Richie, and Ozzy Osbourne.

The festival got its start as a small local fest with stages in various locations throughout the city. Once the original owners of the land, the U.S. Army sold their lakefront land to the city. The promoters of Summerfest were then able to acquire the land for a whopping $1 a year.

Now, Summerfest has grown to become the world’s largest music festival, featuring 800 bands and 900,000 fans.

The fun doesn’t stop at the music, either. Milwaukee has plenty of food, fun, and sights to see in between concerts. Grab your tickets now, then map out all the best places to eat, stay, and explore.

What to See in Milwaukee

Pabst Mansion

The Pabst Mansion was built in 1890 and owned by Captain Fredrick and Maria Pabst, the family who owned the infamous Pabst Blue Ribbon brewing company.

The Pabsts were known for collecting fine treasures and hosting lavish parties — everything from weddings to birthdays to funerals.

In 1975, the house was saved from demolition and turned into a gorgeous museum where you can get in touch with not only the history of Pabst brewing, but the unique architecture of mansions from the 1800’s.

Lake Park

Chances are after all the wonderful music of Summerfest you’ll want a place to unwind. That’s where Lake Park comes in.

Lake Park has been a go-to in Milwaukee since 1889. It contains acres and acres of wildlife, beautifully crafted bridges, landmarks, and a stunning view of Lake Michigan.

While nature walks are ideal here, they’re not the only activity available. Drop by for a few tennis matches or some croquet.

North Point Lighthouse

North Point Lighthouse is celebrating its 130th year since its erection in 1851. At the time of construction, it was the highest beacon on the Great Lakes.

Since then, generation after generation has added its own special touch to it, making it the one-of-a-kind museum it is today.
